Nicola Thomas
Nicola Thomas has completed her MA at the Royal College of Art in London, where she was awarded the Augustus Martin Prize 2013 by Gill Saunders of the Victoria & Albert Museum.
She is also the recipient of the London Print Studio New Graduate Award 2013. For her films, she has upcoming shows in Paris and Berlin as well as Miami. As part of Art Basel Miami, two of her films will be shown as part of the film programme. An awareness of the ‘gaze’ and the aspect of looking is central to Nicola’s work, whether it is by the artist, the camera lens, or the viewer, and the subsequent tension that arises from the relationship of the subject-artist-lens. Nicola’s explores historiography through her work: how history is made, interpreted and re-evaluated; and how these interpretations are continually altered and presented. Recent exhibitions include Multiplied, Christie’s; Carousel, Aspex Gallery; and Parallax, CGProjects.
Nicola’s prints are included in the V&A Special and Permanent Print Collections, and form part of the RCA Special Print Collection. Her book work (under the name of COFA) is included as part of the Chelsea College of Art and Design Artist’s Books Collection. Prior to studying at the Royal College of Art, Nicola completed her BA in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins in 2011.
